June Festivals 2023

The sixth month of the Gregorian Calendar, June, brings many important days for India and the whole world. As we all know, June 5 is celebrated as World Environment Day, and June 21 is World Yoga Day. Apart from these, the month also features Maharana Pratap Jayanti, Ganga Dusshera, Gayatri Jayanti, Yogini Ekadashi, and much more! Here is the list of all the June 2023 Festivals:

Vaikasi Visakam

June 3, 2023

Vaikasi Visakam, also known as Vaigasi Visagam, is a very auspicious day for the people of Tamilnadu, and it is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Muruga or Lord Murugan. This festival falls in the month of Vaisakhi in the Hindu calendar. It is believed that Lord Muruga is the second son of Lord Shiva and was born from Lord Shiva’s third eye; hence he holds destructive powers.

Vat Purnima 

June 3, 2023

Vat Purnima, also known as Vat Savitri, is one of the most significant days for Hindu women. On this day, married women worship Goddess Savitri and observe a fast for their husband’s long life. The fast is observed on the days of Amavasya and Purnima in different states, which is why it falls 15 days ahead in Maharashtra and Gujarat as compared to the South. Women worship the Goddess Savitri with utmost dedication and sincerity. Also, young girls observe fast on this day to get the desired life partner.

Jyeshtha Purnima

On Jyeshtha Purnima, also known as Vat Purnima, women pray for their husband’s long life. According to Hindu Panchang, Jyeshtha is the third month of the Hindu calendar, and during this month, several ponds and rivers dry or their water level decreases. So it is believed that festivals like Ganga Dussehra, Nirjala Ekadashi, etc., are celebrated in this month to convey the importance of water for life.

Devshayani Ekadashi is celebrated on the 11th day of the full moon day of the Ashadha month. It is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu attained deep meditation and woke up four months later on Prabodhini Ekadashi or Devuthani Gyaras. Devshayani Ekadashi is also known as Saubhagya Dini Ekadashi, and fasting on this day; devotees get relieved from their past sins and worshipping Lord Vishnu leads them to salvation.
